This article descibes how to set up a Windows Server to act as a time server (NTP). 

  • Open up Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools > Services.
  • Find the "Windows Time" service, right click it and select Properties.
  • Set the Startup type to "Automatic". Click Ok.
  • Find and open Registry editor.
  • Go to the key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ W32Time\TimeProviders\NtpServer" and change Enabled from 0 to 1.
  • Go to the key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\Config" and change AnnounceFlags from 10 to 5.
  • Open up a cmd window and type
sc start w32time
w32tm /config /update
w32tm /query /configuration
  • Verify that NtpServer is "Enabled: 1 (Local)".
