Beacon technology is a form of RFID but is typically based on Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). In particular, Apple's iBeacons are active RFID tag that uses BLE. There is also Eddystone, the open beacon format from Google.

A custom application or DISE tool can query a beacon for information and relay information via API access to DISE CX Portal.
