Placeholders

Placeholders can be used to allow restricted, location level users the ability to manage a fixed playlist within a channel or scenario. Placeholders are controlled by an admin on a higher level than the placeholder

Create a Placeholder

  1. Navigate to 'Channels' in the left menu: Channels🔎︎
  2. Select a channel.
  3. Click the 3 dots in the 'Playlists' banner or in a scenario.
  4. Click 'Add placeholder': placeholder_add🔎︎
  5. Click 'Create'.
  6. Add a name for the placeholder. The auto-generated placeholder playlist will have this name.
  7. Select the location level the placeholder playlist can be accessed from.
  8. Select the orientation.
  9. Click 'Create'.

Add a Placeholder

  1. Select a channel.
  2. Click the 3 dots in the 'Playlists' banner or in a scenario.
  3. Click 'Add placeholder': placeholder_add🔎︎
  4. Select one or more placeholders from the list.
  5. Click 'Add'.
  6. Click 'Save and publish'.
A placeholder will only generate a playlist for a location level user, when a display in the placeholder's location level is connected to a channel containing the placeholder. 
A placeholder will generate a playlist for each location if multiple displays, connected to the same channel, are under different locations of the same level.

View a Placeholder

Viewing a placeholder as an admin is different to viewing it as a location level user:

Admin

Admin users can only view a placeholder within the channel view:

Act As

Admin users can act as a location level user to view the auto-generated playlist.

  1. Navigate to the location that the placeholder is assigned.
  2. Click the 3 dots and select 'Act As':

4. A temporary role will be created, the portal will now only show content that's available to the selected location:act as v2🔎︎

5. Navigate to 'Playlists' in the left menu: Playlists_menu🔎︎

6. Select the auto-generated playlist.

7. To exit, click X and the portal will return to normal.

Location Level User

Location level users will see an auto-generated playlist. The playlist name also includes the location level of the placeholder:

  1. Navigate to 'Playlists' in the left menu: Playlists_menu🔎︎
  2. Select the auto-generated placeholder playlist:

3. Edit playlist.

4. Click 'Save and publish'.

Example:
  1. Display 01 is connected to site 'Dise Karlstad'.
  2. Display 02 is connected to site 'Dise Lund'.
Both displays are connected to the same channel, which contains a 'Window' playlist and a placeholder.
The same placeholder will generate two site level placeholder playlists, one for site 'Dise Karlstad' and one for site 'Dise Lund'.

  1. Display 01 will play content from the 'Window' playlist and the 'Dise Karlstad' placeholder playlist.
  2. Display 02 will play content from the 'Window' playlist and the 'Dise Lund' placeholder playlist.
